About the author

Chris Strobl

The Software Factory Guy.

I started with hands-on FDE work in a large professional services organization. Alongside the CIO, I helped build the enterprise FDE unit I now lead.

The work puts technical and human decisions next to each other. Who should we hire? What is the customer trying to achieve? What can the team responsibly commit to? How do we give talented people room to grow?

I care about what becomes possible when engineers understand the business and the business trusts them. That relationship needs leadership: people who can bring the right colleagues into a decision, explain difficult tradeoffs and take responsibility after the software ships.

Putting the work into words

Leading FDE Teams is where I'm writing down what I have learned about people, trust, delivery and opportunity. I want to give readers something they can use and think through for themselves.

Good ideas improve when they meet another person's experience. If something in the book connects with a decision you have faced, I would be glad to hear about it.
